PROFESSIONAL WOMAN
Can anybody imagine their life totally changing in one heartbeat? One minute an uncomplicated country woman and her soul mate husband are happily going along in the flow of life. The next minute she hears the sickening sound of metal twisting and her husband is dead. Head trauma from the car accident has robbed her voice. To make matters worse, somebody wants to kill her.
What if people knew she saw and talked to her dead husband? Is it such a blessing to have that ability? How would she know she hasn’t lost her mind? What does she use as a yardstick to judge her sanity by?
She locates her husband’s ignored uncle and found he has mob connections. Quite unexpectedly, he personally trains her to ‘take care’ of herself. He teaches her the ropes and she hits the floor running.
There are so many twists and turns along the way. The twists are in the path, the quest, to finally know her worth. The turns are when she finally comes to the place where taking care of herself becomes second nature.
At 99,000 words, “Professional Woman” tells the story of Racheal Sortini, brokenhearted, angry, ready for change, and anticipating a new life. She goes where she has never ventured before. The fact that her journey takes her outside the law does not enter into the equation.
Bethany Armstrong, Racheal’s friend, occasional lover, and mentor delves into the very core of her existence by sharing with her the ability to deal with the blows life has delivered her. Learning to ‘stand in her power’ is her passport to mental freedom. She is a bit surprised at herself but also proud of all she has become.
IF YOU ENJOY SOMETHING A BIT OFF THE WALL, THIS MIGHT RING YOUR CHIMES.
About My Father’s Business
There are those of you who feel you have escaped punishment
for your evil deeds.
Perhaps you have caused injury to others
Perhaps you think you have “gotten away” with something
Perhaps you are one of the wretches who have brought so
much misery to others. What was it? You sold them their
first drugs? You pushed them into AIDS? You tore the children
out of the hands of their mothers by your influence? Mere
babes in the woods? What satisfaction did you get by causing
their death?
You turned an innocent young girl into a
prostitute? You polluted her first with your own lust?
Perhaps you sold him a gun. You of course had no idea he
was just a teenager. Or perhaps it was a knife you first
put into his hand. The blood of the people he kills is
on your hands the same as if you pulled the trigger or stuck
the blade.
My father is Death. There are times when he passes over people like
you. I am the Daughter of Death and I will not forget who
you are. You’ve heard the expression “There’ll be Hell to
pay?” I wrote it. As my father is, so am I.
life. You don’t really know me. I have walked the
Earth since the beginning of time. From its very foundation
I have been.
When the oceans were formed, I was here. When darkness
was turned to light, I was here. When ice was formed, I was
here. My sister and I have played with the beasts in the fields.
Their tails like the tallest of trees, their teeth as rocks sharpened
like razors.
We soared with the giant birds across the vast mountains.
From their heights we could see from ocean to ocean.
When they were dying, I took them into my arms and
comforted them. I eased their pain.
I have stood on the very edge of darkness and called out the
names of those who have gone on. When I call, all must answer
for I am the Daughter of Death. No woman, no man nor animal
can resist my call. It is an exercise in futility to ignore me for I
come with a purpose which shall not be deterred.
My Mother’s blood flows richly through the veins of my Sister.
She has been blessed with being the Daughter of Life, for she
brings joy. The Daughter of Life and the Daughter of Death are
the two extremes which go hand in hand, life and death, for they
are a part of each other. My sister gives life and therefore I must
take it back to complete the cycle.
It has been asked for as many years as I can remember why it is
Daughters bring Life and Death. Where are the Sons who have
been spoken of throughout time and time again? Is this not the work
of the warriors? Why not the males who have been written about
for as long as people have been holding writing instruments?
Where are they and why aren’t they doing this most difficult task?
Women are strong but not in the same way as men. We understand
things they know nothing about. Our bodies deliver the sons and
daughters. Our bodies absorb the punishment of men. Fathers,
husbands, brothers, friends, they all take us for granted. Why, you ask?
The answer is simple once you know who they are. We are strong.
